December of 1894 was a busy time at the Maxey House. Not only were the Maxeys preparing to celebrate Christmas at the end of the month, but they were also preparing for their great-nephew, Sam Bell Maxey Long, and his new bride, Lala, to move into the house with them. To celebrate the Longs’ 120th wedding anniversary, visitors to the Maxey House during the month of December will experience the house during this time period as the Christmas decorations go up and the upstairs bedrooms are readied for the newlyweds as they return from the honeymoon. “1894: A Christmas Wedding” will highlight the way the Maxeys celebrated Christmas during the late 1800s and traditional Victorian Christmas customs, as well as the arrival of the Longs as a newlywed couple into the house after their wedding on December 12th and their honeymoon. The exhibit will on view Tuesday-Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. through the month of December.
