Set against a backdrop of changing world events between 1948 and 1973, Driving Miss Daisy depicts the relationship over a twenty-year period between a feisty elderly Southern widow and her proud but soft-spoken chauffeur, who is a retired mild truck driver. They embark on a journey from suspicion and mistrust to respect and deep-rooted affection. Based on a Pulitzer Prize - winning play, Driving Miss Daisy won the Academy Award as the best film of 1989. Driving Miss Daisy premiered off -Broadway in 1987. In addition, Jessica Tandy won the Oscar as Best Actress, and writer Algred Uhry won for Best Adapted Screenplay.
