The Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site will host Beauty Receipts from the Past and Present on Saturday, July 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. During the event, participants will learn about a Victorian woman’s beauty regimen while getting to make their own modern versions of at-home beauty products. A respectable Victorian woman did not wear make-up as we think of it today. A large portion of the daily beauty regimen came down to skin care plus the minimal use of natural-toned make-up to achieve the desired, marble-like complexion that was so popular. Participants will learn about some of these different products, both homemade and purchased, as well as the use of make-up. Afterwards, participants will make two sugar scrubs and a skin moisturizer to take home with them along with the recipes for these products so they can continue to make them at home.
Pre-registration for this event is required as space is limited. To register for the event, please call the Maxey House at 903.785.5716 by Monday, July 6. The cost is $15.00 per participant. All supplies are included in the cost.
