Parlor Chat Series at the Maxey House

Join us for our brand new parlor chat series! There will be a new topic every other month, each topic following this year’s theme of “Love and Marriage.”

Parlor chats should last around 45 minutes. We will meet in the parlor of the Maxey House at 3 p.m. on the 3rd Sunday of the month (unless otherwise noted).

During the March 15th chat, we will discuss the wife's role in marriage and in the family. Gender roles were strictly defined for the upper classes during the Victorian times with specific expectations regarding a man's role in the house versus that of the woman's. This parlor chat will highlight those differences and how the woman's roles were depicted in the popular culture of the time.
